Seed & grow info:
Use a good quality seed sowing mix and you can also add in some bark or other medium to 'open' the soil a bit more. Sow just under the surface and keep moist. You should see your first sprouts in about a week to ten days. These plants, even as small seedlings will go well in full sun. If the full sun is VERY hot, then no, put them in part shade until 3-4 leaf stage.
You can sow marigold seeds anytime really. Just be careful if you want to sow mid winter. It's doable, and here in Qld I do exactly that and they grow just fine. If you live where there are frosts, protect new seedlings from it.
Water regularly at the base of the plants and feed with liquid fertiliser when buds appear.
There are many and varied uses for marigold.
